Color and color options is important when installing a new patio. However, another important aspect of color is that the coloring products are of high quality. Brands such Scofield, Davis Colors, Solomon Colors, and others, are nationally recognized brands that provide high quality color hardener and/or integral color that promise to perform year after year. After choosing your color, ask the contractor for the specification for that specific color. Besides insuring that the color is of a high quality, if you ever want to expand or add on to the patio, as a homeowner, you will be better equipped to deal with color matching issues.
Another important aspect of the final look of the patio is the pattern. The options here are truly infinite, but the best way to ensure you will be satisfied with the final look, is to look at an actual concrete sample. Ideally, the contractor will have either a showroom or a job site you can visit. However, a 2'x2 foot sample would also be acceptable.
Besides the infinite design options, there are many other benefits to this type of patio. One such benefit is that the patio becomes a solid one piece concrete slab. This feature prevents uneven settling, which can happen with individual pavers or pieces of natural stone. Another important benefit that leads many homeowners to choosing stamped concrete for a patio is how relatively easy it is to maintain. A solid slab also helps to keep the required maintenance low by stopping weeds. Other than that, standard cleaning and occasional re-sealing every couple of years or so based on wear, climate and usage, should keep your patio looking as good as the day it was installed.
The look and feel of stamped concrete can mimic other natural products such as flagstone, brick, natural stone, slate, and other rock, tile, and stone patterns, but it can also be a completely custom and unique look, that can be designed to blend in with any decor or setting. Any homeowner would do himself/herself a favor bay considering stamped concrete for their patio.
